Sikia – things we have here, things we do, things we create. Join us!

So hi folks, this is my first post to inform you about the coming St.George’s Day Celebration 17th April. Sikia has the nickname “Texas” by some, the young lads can be a bit wild. I’m going to try to upload photos and short videos of this day.

St George’s Day Celebrations Sikia

The Tuesday after Greek Easter on Sikia main beach, a traditional horserace takes place. This recalls the time of prohibition against horse riding the Turks held over the Greeks during the occupation and even has roots back to the Byzantine period.

Awards are given to different categories of horses that participate from all over Sithonia and a number of other activities take place sometimes in collaboration with Sarti, the neighbouring village. Traditional dance, singing, food and drink are provided.
