Hello there,
The Flintstones Big Band Berlin are here again in Sikia Halkidiki from 11-22 July for the third time. The band consists of 18 musicians and 2 singers. All they need to perform is a space 6 x 8 m and 220V power. Their repertoire includes swing, Latin, pop, modern arrangements and of course some Greek songs – especially arranged for this tour. Please get in touch if you can help with a venue and I will also keep you posted about dates.(I have some promotional cds and dvds for anyone interested in providing a venue) Last time they came and played at George pub Sarti, Sikia main square, Toroni beach, Danai and a number of small venues.

Hi folks,

Meet my friend Rolf Heutmann.

He is a young German freelance reporter who is interested in producing short promotional videos/films in Halkidiki and in particular Sikia.

Picture1Rolf has a small house in Sikia, with his family, (just below mine in fact) and is interested in spending more time in Greece.

He has already produced some short films for small businesses in the locality;

‘Five Steps in the Sand’ tavern….. and

‘The Dolphin Diving Centre:’……

and he will be getting in touch with a number of small family hotels and business individually.

This type of short promotional film takes about a week to make with a minimum starting budget of about 500 euro. Of course, films are tailor-made to suit each situation. As you may note from the samples, there is no spoken language necessary, which makes them universally understood and the sound track is created by Rolf himself to avoid any copyright issues. But of course, it’s also possible to use spoken language for specific information which can be translated and/or make some use of popular Greek words and phrases just to give a local Greek ambience.

Why not be among the first to get something out there on YouTube or to use in your general advertising or web site. Perhaps you could combine it with other small businesses you know?

We hope to hear from you,

Pat and Rolf

This year’s calendar-

P1030735Hello there folks,

I’ve just printed this year’s calendar. There is a wide selection of photos taken by friends of Sikia and myself and I have given a theme to each month. Some themes are perhaps easier to guess than others! I shall be sending many of you complimentary copies, but if you would like to order more, please get in touch and as soon as possible as there are limited copies.

All the best,

Stacking Bee boxes

bee boxes

Hi folks,

This is my latest project in the workshop. I saw friends using old beehive boxes as bookshelves, about six of them stacked against the wall and noticed they were also short of kitchen storage. The space just below their kitchen windows was crying out for a row of bee boxes too. As their house has great character and a lot of homemade artistic touches, there’s great potential for how they can be painted up to fit in. I thought it great fun to make them all different. I’m working on one with drawers.  Another idea  is a drop down door on ropes to be used as a boot box. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hi Folks,

We are all hoping this glorious weather will hold a bit longer. It was fantastic for the Parthenonas walk last  Sunday and friends and I have still been swimming in the fresh crystal water of the local beach!

So, as next weekend is officially a 3 day holiday, I would like to offer my Metohi walk to you as we locals down here will probably do it anyway.

The walk is in the hills and over paddocks above Sikia which has spectacular views of Mt. Athos and Toroni with a picnic stop at an old Metochi ruin. In this area we sometimes find mushrooms. This walk is between 3 ½ – 4 hours, a circular route. I suggest a start time of 12.30 for those coming directly from Thessaloniki. Meet at my house (near the church) or the slaughter house on the old Toroni road (if you know it). We will probably adjourn to a taverna called Limonaki at the beach or the tavern Mimosa in the village, depending on the weather.

Of course accommodation is available at the house and nearby- if I’m full, for a reasonable rate if you’d like to stay over for a long weekend (and other walks) or just have a long beach walk on the Monday. (if you would like accommodation, please don’t leave your booking until the last minute)

Hope to see you,

All the best,

Hi Folks,

Georgia has a beautiful traditional house in the village and comes twice a year since she retired. Last autumn we had a big birthday party in her yard and realized she needed a BIG table to get everyone together. My brief was to make a table that could be de-constructed and put away in the cellar for the winter. Whilst in England this January, I went to an antique furniture exhibition in London and came across a ‘harvest table’. This table was made to be portable during harvest time so that it could be picked up and moved on to the next field easily. So I adapted this principle and with a ratchet spanner and the removal of 16 coach bolts in 10 minutes, the table can be taken apart and tucked in the cellar.               Hope you like it!

Well folks, We had such glorious hot weather that we replaced the walks with swims. Really refreshing! Beaches to ourselves and some skinny dipping! Our Easter meal at taverna ‘Limanaki’ was a great success with kid roasted in the oven the traditional Sikia way with rice soaking up the meat juices, mingling with various […]
